How do I check my property's certificate of occupancy?

Search the NYC DOB Building Information System (BIS) online using your building's address or block and lot number. The database shows the current CO, approved use and occupancy, and any open violations. Compare the CO's approved configuration to how you actually use the property. Common discrepancies include finished basements, additional dwelling units, and commercial-to-residential conversions that were never permitted.
