How long can I wait before reinvesting sale proceeds?

If you are not in a 1031 exchange, there is no legal deadline to reinvest. You can hold proceeds indefinitely in cash or cash equivalents while evaluating options. If you are in a 1031 exchange, you have 45 days to identify replacement property and 180 days to close. Outside of that structure, take the time needed to make a disciplined allocation decision rather than a reactive one.
