Why should I keep a backup buyer after accepting an offer?

A credible backup buyer is your strongest negotiating weapon during attorney review. If the primary buyer attempts a re-trade or shows signs of flight, you can credibly communicate that you have alternatives - eliminating their leverage entirely. Without a backup, every buyer concession request puts you in a desperate position where you must accept or start over from scratch with accumulated days on market.
