What is the difference between a CRAT and a CRUT?

A Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust pays a fixed dollar amount annually regardless of trust performance - ideal if you need predictable income. A Charitable Remainder Unitrust pays a fixed percentage of trust value recalculated each year - payments increase if investments appreciate, providing inflation protection. Both require a minimum 5% payout rate and generate a current-year charitable deduction based on the present value of the charity's remainder interest.
