SCRIE (Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption)
SCRIE is the senior half of the NYC Rent Freeze Program, administered by the Department of Finance, freezing rent for eligible tenants aged 62 or older in rent-regulated units who meet income limits. As with DRIE, the landlord receives the difference between the frozen rent and the lawful rent as a property tax abatement credit rather than from the tenant.
